Can you fix a water leak yourself safely?

You can safely fix a very small, accessible water leak yourself, but most leaks should be diagnosed and repaired by a licensed plumber. The biggest safety issue is hidden, pressurized water that can cause structural damage and mold before you notice it. A drip at a flex connector is very different from a pinhole behind tile; the first is a parts swap, the second needs pro tools. We handle leak detection and targeted repairs, including slab leaks, for homeowners in the Cocoa Beach area. Our plumbers use thermal imaging, acoustic, electrical, and camera methods to find the exact source with minimal demolition.

DIY is reasonable only when all of these are true:

  • You can shut off and isolate the affected fixture.
  • The leak is at an exposed fitting, trap, or supply hose.
  • You have matching parts and can dry and pressure-test.
  • There’s no moisture in walls, ceilings, or under flooring.

If you’re unsure what you’re looking at, shut off the nearest water valve and avoid energized areas before calling a pro.
